Jared Soares was born in Santa Cruz, California in 1982 and raised in the suburbs of Kansas City, Kansas. He studied literature and creative writing at The University of Kansas. In 2006 he moved to Southwest Virginia to intern at The Roanoke Times. A year later he was hired as full time staff photojournalist. He is currently a staffer at The Roanoke Times.

Jared is available for both editorial and commercial commissions worldwide.

Some of his clients and publications include: Getty Images, USA Today, Toronto Star, The Virginian-Pilot, The Los Angeles Times, The Washington Post, Discovery, Inc., People, and Newsweek.

He has also had his first solo exhibit at the O. Winston Link Museum in the Fall of 2009.
